Long regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, it is not a surprise Van Dijk remains wanted by a number of teams despite his ongoing injury. The Netherlands centre-back has been targeted by Manchester City – who are willing to pay him £180,000-a-week – Chelsea (£170,000-a-week) and Liverpool (£120,000-a-week). Southampton have no need, nor desire, to sell Van Dijk, and are believed to be holding out for a transfer fee higher than £50m. A wonderfully gifted ball-playing centre-half, Van Dijk would improve every team in the Premier League, and there is sure to be a big battle for his signature in the coming months.

The season has only just ended but transfers are happening thick and fast.

Manchester City have brought two players to the Etihad Stadium, with a third deal almost complete, while Chelsea have already sold more than £30m worth of players.

Deals are going to continue throughout the summer, and talkSPORT takes a look at the top five likely transfers involving defenders.

Two of the players already turn out for Premier League clubs, and it seems the other three will be making the journey to England in the near future.
