John Terry is a free agent this summer after leaving Chelsea
Aston Villa are ready to go toe-to-toe with Bournemouth in the battle to sign former Chelsea captain John Terry this summer.
Terry is available as a free agent this summer following his departure from Stamford Bridge after 22 years with the Blues.
Bournemouth are the current favourites to sign the centre-back following reports he is close to penning a £100,000-a-week deal with the Cherries.
But, according to the Sun, the 36-year-old is now considering a surprise move down to the Championship after hitting it off with Villa boss Steve Bruce on a post-season holiday.
The pair were pictured together enjoying a round of golf over the weekend at the Quinta do Lago resort in Portugal, along with brother Paul Terry and Bruce’s son, Alex.
It is claimed the Chelsea legend is tempted by the challenge on offer at Villa Park and is keen to help the club out of the second tier by sealing promotion back to the Premier League.
As a result, the bookmakers have slashed the odds on him leaving London for the Midlands.
And an announcement on Terry’s future may come soon, having said following his final Chelsea game that he will makes a decision following a break away.
“I am going to take a few weeks off now with my family to relax before making a decision”, he said following the 1-1 draw with Sunderland in May.
“But I want to carry on playing, whether it be for one or two more years.
“And that is the reason I decided to leave the club as I did not want to stand in the way of all the young players.”
The former England skipper has also been linked with moves to the MLS and the mega-rich Chinese Super League.
