Stefan De Vrij

Chelsea and Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij is believed to be close to renewing his Lazio contract, but with an £18m release clause.

The Dutch defender’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he was linked with a move to the Premier League, as well as Italian champions Juventus in the summer.

However, Il Messaggero is reporting that a new contract has been agreed, with De Vrij ready to sign on until 2020.

The new deal would see his wages rise to £2.3m per season – around £3m when bonuses are included, and is expected to contain an £18m release clause.

That is expected to rise to around £23m, based on the number of appearances De Vrij makes for Lazio.
