De Bruyne signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2015

Jamie Redknapp has claimed Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are the closest to emulating the playing styles of Barcelona legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

De Bruyne and Silva have had a successful season so far and are joint top of the Premier League assists charts with eight each to their names.

City boss Pep Guardiola managed Xavi and Iniesta in his successful four-year spell at the Barcelona helm.

Silva was a doubt for Manchester City’s cruicial game away to local and title rivals Manchester United, but is reportedly fit to play.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Drive building up to this weekend’s Manchester derby, Redknapp said that the City midfielders complement each other well.

Redknapp said: “Those two in midfield are the closest to Iniesta and Xavi.

“They play, they manipulate the ball, the way they circulate it, the way they always want it even if they are losing or in a difficult position, they are so good.

“They complement each other so well because they are different. De Bruyne has that cutting edge and he maybe plays that final ball better than Silva does but Silva is the one that makes them tick.

“If you watch them live and anyone hasn’t seen them try and watch David Silva live because he conducts the orchestra. He dictates the pace that Manchester City play at.”
