Another level weekend for the column as after correctly tipping up Barcelona at 9/4 to win at the Bernabeu, West Ham cost us as they slipped to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Newcastle. There’s plenty of betting action on Boxing Day, including Manchester United’s clash with Burnley.

The home banker
Manchester United are fancied to get the better of a Burnley side who were outclassed by Spurs at the weekend. To be fair the Clarets have overachieved massively so far this season, and will be buoyed by the fact they held the Red Devils to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in the corresponding fixture last season. Yes Jose Mourinho will be demanding a response from his players after their disappointing 2-2 draw at Leicester, a performance he described as “childish.” Expect United to fly out of the blocks against Burnley, where it could pay to back them to be ahead at half-time and at the final whistle.
Selection: £4 on Manchester United Half-Time/Full-Time at 4/5 with bet365.
The tasty treble
Arsenal have not been the most dependable side on the road this season but they look a tempting proposition at 8/11 to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Thursday. The Eagles have won just one of their past 12 home matches against the Gunners, who have the class to justify favouritism. Elsewhere Tottenham look a sure thing at 4/11 to beat stuttering Southampton, and if you throw in Huddersfield to draw with Stoke City (21/10) you’d have a treble paying over 6/1.
Selection: £2 on treble at 6.3/1 with bet365.
The euro wager
The game of the week in Italy is unquestionably Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash between AC Milan and Inter. The Derby della Madonnina is always worth a watch, and Inter have solid claims at odds against here. A late Mauro Icardi penalty sealed a 3-2 win for them against their bitter city rivals back in October and Inter are currently 16 points ahead of the Rossoneri in Serie A.
Selection: £2 on Inter to win at 23/20 with bet365.
The wild-card tip
Roberto Firmino has been on fire for Liverpool in recent weeks and he looks a tasty shout at 4/1 to score first against Swansea. The Brazilian has scored seven goals in his past eight appearances for the Reds, who could run riot against the Premier League’a bottom club. Liverpool, who have not lost at home on Boxing Day since 1986, look banker materiel and Firmino, who has scored three goals in three starts against the Swans, looks the man to get with.
Selection: £1 on Firmino to score first at 4/1 with bet365.
The bookie basher
Chelsea could not break down a stubborn Everton side at the weekend and may not have things all their own way at home to Brighton. The Blues surely know the game is up in terms of trying to catch leaders Manchester City and have simply not been consistent enough this season. Brighton will go to Stamford Bridge and have a real go, so with this in mind it could pay to have a speculative punt on a 2-1 home win, available at a very tempting 10/1 with bet365.
Selection: £1 on Chelsea to win 2-1 at 10/1 with bet365.
