Virgil van Dijk will not be risked against Manchester City because of a tight hamstring
Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their Premier League match against Manchester City, with reports claiming Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out because of injury.
The Reds host the runaway league leaders at 16:00, with Liverpool hoping to become the first team to defeat Pep Guardiola’s side in a domestic competition this season.
Van Dijk completed his £75m transfer from Southampton when the transfer window opened on January 1, and he was in line to make his Premier League debut against City having first appeared in the FA Cup third-round victory over Everton – a game in which Van Dijk scored the winning goal.
However, reports say Van Dijk has a tight hamstring and will not be risked for today’s match.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to name Dejan Lovren alongside Joel Matip at the heart of his defence.
