Tottenham appear to have been handed a boost ahead of the transfer window with reports that top target Matthijs de Ligt wants to leave Ajax this summer.
The 18-year-old Dutchman has been linked as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who is widely expected to leave Spurs after failing to agree a new contract.
De Ligt is one of the brightest young talents in the Netherlands and is in-demand ahead of the summer transfer window.
As well as Tottenham, Premier League champions Manchester City have been linked with the Holland international, as have Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
And those interested clubs have all been put on alert by reports from Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf, which claim De Ligt is ready to leave Ajax when the transfer window opens.
It is claimed the versatile defender, who joined the Ajax academy at the age of nine and was only promoted to the senior team in 2016, is disappointed by the Amsterdam giants’ lack of titles in recent years.
Ajax is the Netherlands’ most-decorated club, but they have now gone four years without winning the Eredivisie title, losing out again to rivals PSV this year.
De Ligt’s contract at the Amsterdam Arena runs until 2021, and it is said manager Erik ten Hag must now decide whether to keep the youngster at the club against his will or cash in for the right price.
Alderweireld, 29, has one year remaining on his current deal at Tottenham and has been linked with a move to London rivals Chelsea.
Recent reports have claimed Tottenham want to sign De Ligt as the Belgian’s replacement and are preparing a £45million offer.
The 18-year-old has already made over 50 league appearances for Ajax and has claimed five senior Netherlands caps.
Spurs’ pursuit could be boosted by their good relationship with Ajax, having paid £42m to sign defender Davinson Sanchez from the Amsterdam club last summer.
